About the league
LIRA CORPORATE LEAGUE IS A BEACON OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN LANGO SUB-REGION
Background and Inception
Founded in 2023 by two visionary leaders, Joshua Adea and Daniel Eromu, the Lira Corporate League (LCL) was established as a non-profit platform to unify corporate entities in the Lango Sub-region under a shared mission of service and social impact. The idea was simple but powerful, leveraging the influence, resources, and networks of companies through sport and collective action to confront the most pressing social issues in Northern Uganda. Since then, the league has become a signature symbol of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), professionalism, and purposeful community engagement. Driven by the principle of "service above self," the league does not generate profits. Instead, all engagements, programs, and resources are channeled into addressing real-life community needs, particularly in health, environment, youth empowerment, and education.
Mission and Vision
The vision o the Lira Corporate League is to be a leading platform for corporate engagement and community transformation through sport and social responsibility.
Its mission is to bring together institutions, organizations, and professionals in a coordinated effort to tackle the critical challenges facing the Lango Sub-region through organized events, awareness drives, and sustainable development initiatives.
SOCIAL IMPACT INITIATIVES
Since its inception, LCL has reached over 12,041 individuals through various monthly outings and targeted interventions. Below are some of the major impact areas:
- Blood Donation Drives Blood shortages are a recurring crisis in Uganda, especially in upcountry regions like Lango. LCL partnered with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services to organize regular blood donation drives during league outings. From February 2023 to October 2024, the league successfully mobilized 476 units of blood, saving lives in hospitals across the lango sub region. These drives are conducted in an engaging environment where sports, music, and health awareness come together, attracting donors from both corporate teams and the public.
- HIV Testing and Awareness, With HIV/AIDS, which is still a major public health challenge in Uganda, the Lira Corporate League has taken a proactive role in promoting testing and awareness. In collaboration with health partners such as Lira Regional Referral Hospital, 2126 individuals were tested between 2023 and mid-2024, with 31 people testing positive. Importantly, 28 were immediately linked to care, while efforts to support the remaining individuals continue. Alongside testing, the league has championed behavioral change messages on stigma reduction, disclosure, and consistent treatment adherence. Every outing features an HIV awareness booth, manned by qualified personnel, making testing both accessible and stigma-free.
- TB Screening and Health Education Tuberculosis continues to affect many in Lango due to poor housing conditions and limited access to diagnosis. LCL has engaged TB health specialists to offer free screening, counseling, and referrals during select events. The community is also educated on the link between TB and HIV, how early detection can save lives.
- Tree Planting and Environmental Conservation, Environmental degradation is threatening livelihoods and biodiversity in the region. Recognizing the role corporates can play in conservation, LCL integrated tree planting into its CSR framework. Working with the community, the league has planted hundreds of trees around schools, health centers, and public playgrounds. The campaign emphasizes climate change, environmental education, and sustainable living. One of the symbolic initiatives was the “Green Champions of Lango” program, where every participating team planted a tree in honor of a community or health worker who had made a difference.
- Scholastic Support and Youth Empowerment ment, The Lira Corporate League is passionate about supporting the next generation. Through its “Books Before Boots” initiative, member companies have donated scholastic materials, sanitary towels, shoes, and educational kits to hundreds of school children, particularly from rural, underserved areas. Additionally, the league launched a mentorship program where professionals from companies interact with students and youth, sharing skills, offering career advice, and promoting values such as integrity, discipline, and hard work.
In 2024, the league dedicated one of its outings to primary sevenn candidates at Adyel Boarding Primary School, providing scholastic materials and hosting dedication prayers to encourage their academic journey with a Unique Platform Built on Sport and Service
What sets the Lira Corporate League apart is its ability to blend fun, wellness, and philanthropy. Monthly sporting events hosted at Uganda Technical College Lira bring together corporate teams in football, tug-of-war, pool table, tug of war, 100m Sprints, chess, volleyball, and fun team-building challenges. But beneath the sports is a deeper commitment to service, accountability, and development. The league is governed by a committee of professionals with oversight roles to ensure transparency, inclusion, and equitable participation. Special guest teams, such as schools or hospitals, are often invited to promote their causes, while awareness messages run through sports jerseys, announcers, and branded materials.
